Vintage Tuareg mortar and pestle with metal band
Mortar and pestles were and are a key tool used by the Tuareg (nomads of the Sahel region) to grind/separate millet from the chaff. Hand carved from one piece of wood and repaired through the years, these functional pieces are stand alone works of art. A simple carved mortar with metal band fashioned around bottom, pestle is carved with grooves likely to aid ones grip.
